Step # 1: set a topic
Before you jump into work, of course, you first need a (rough) plan. The most important thing is to know what you want to write about or what your eBook should be about.
There are different approaches to answering this question. Here are a few that are particularly popular:
- Write about a topic you love (such as your hobby)
- Write about a topic that you are familiar with (for example, work-related)

Digital products are “naturally” best advertised online. Classic offline marketing therefore makes little sense. Instead, focus on different online channels such as:

- own website / landing page
- Banner advertising
- Cooperation with influencers
Good to know : Building your own community can have a positive effect on the success of your eBook. The more followers and fans you have on the social web, the more potential readers you will reach.
Step # 8: Sell
eBooks can be sold on different channels. This includes, for example, your own homepage, but also external providers such as online shops or the big player Amazon.
If you want to reach the largest possible readership or buyers, you would of course do well to position yourself as broadly as possible and use different sales channels.
But always make sure that you only choose the options that suit you and your product. Quality is clearly more important than quantity.
Step # 9: tweak
The great thing about eBooks and other digital products is that you can constantly optimize and update them. For example, if you discover content-related or formal errors, note another aspect or want to draw attention to a new development, then you don’t have to wait until the next edition, you can make the change immediately.
This process is extremely important – especially if you are writing about a topic that is constantly changing and constantly generating new insights (a very good example here is social media marketing).
Nowadays, anyone who downloads an eBook on a certain topic expects the content to be up-to-date. Because if you want to read the status of 2014, you can also buy a classic book in paper form.
Anyone who has written and published an eBook once, will probably do it again and again.
